In all the courses, you will sample the best value wines available in your area and compare them with benchmark wines produced by some of the most prestigious winemakers from around the world.
Learn how grapes are grown, how wine is made, and the best way to store and serve wine. The concepts of terroir (the combination of geography, microclimate and soil type), typicity (the flavour of wine most typical of a particular grape variety), and balance (when the alcohol strength, sugar and tannins complement each other) will be studied. The sense of taste will be investigated and you will be shown how to taste and mark wine for quality.
You will learn:
- How to recognise quality wine and identify the classic grape varieties.
- How to spot faults in wine that you buy.
- The terms to describe wine and how to taste wine.
- How to interpret wine labels and understand the quality indications of terms such as 'Grand Cru' and 'AC'.
- The best wine to accompany meals in a restaurant and to go with food at home.
You will receive an information pack to accompany the course, free tasting glasses and a certificate on conclusion of the course to state you are proficient in wine tasting.
The information pack will give all the details of the wines tasted: where they come from, what they taste like and where to buy them in the UK at the best prices.
