Wines

The course will include the following subjects:

wines of the worldFrench wines

A virtual tour of France tasting some of the best wines from each region, Bordeaux, Burgundy, Loire and the Rhone valley. The tour will allow you to taste the classic grape varieties from each of the regions. It will illustrate the best a wine can be from a particular grape variety.

Australian and New Zealand wines

The Ozzie wines are mass-produced and are reliable and good value. There is now a move to produce more individual wines in Australia. Sample the usual and unusual.
New Zealand wine makers have become renowned for their Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir wines; you will taste the best examples that are readily available.

Wines from South Africa and North and South America

South African wines are the flavour of the year. Excellent value for money but what do they taste like?
California struggles to sell wine for under £5 in the UK – find out why.
Chile produces some fantastic wines while its neighbours Argentina and Uruguay struggle to keep up.

Spanish and Portuguese wines

Spain can surprise you with the wealth of different flavoured wine made from the Tempranillo grape – some you would not recognise as Spanish. All the unpronounceable grape varieties from Portugal are confusing but some are superb.

Wines from Italy and from other countries of the world

The wines from Italy are as varied and complicated as they are numerous. Get to grips with them and sample some with consistent quality.
Greece, Romania and Hungary? Why not? Get to taste some wines perhaps you would not normally buy.

Sparkling and sweet wines

Last but not least the sparklers from Champagne and other fizzy wine producing regions – some can even rival those from Champagne. Be surprised by the abundant flavours of sweet wines and how easily drinkable they are when chilled.
