Wine & Spirit Education Trust Courses
The Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET) is a registered charity established in 1969 in the UK to promote, provide and develop high quality education and training in wines, spirits and other alcoholic liquors for those in the wine and spirit trade or intending to join it. In 1991 the Trust’s remit was extended to include education of the general public and its qualifications are recognized in the UK and internationally.
Level 1 Wines: A Wine & Spirit Education Trust course providing basic product knowledge for first time employees in the wine trade and interested consumers alike.
The course covers:
- The main styles of wine
- The characteristics of the major grape varieties
- The WSET Level 1 Systematic Approach to Tasting
- Wine service
- Health, safety and legal issues
- The matching of food and wine
An exam concludes the day of learning and consists of 30 multiple-choice questions.
The next Level 1 WSET Foundation course will be held on: Saturday 10th March 2012 in central Cambridge. Cost: £135 Includes WSET study pack, wines and cost of exam and lunch at a restaurant nearby.
Level 2 Wines and Spirits: A Wine & Spirit Education Trust trade qualification building on the WSET foundation Level 1 course providing all round product knowledge for employees and the interested consumer.
Course programme:
- Factors that influence wine style – grape growing and wine making
- How to interpret wine labels
- Key grape varieties and wines from around the world
- Sparkling and sweet wines
- Fortified wines plus spirits and liqueurs
- The WSET Level 2 Approach to Tasting and food and wine matching
An exam on conclusion of the course consists of 50 multiple-choice questions.
The next Level 2 WSET Intermediate course will be held over three weekends: Sundays 11th, 18th and 25th March 2012 Cost: £325 Includes WSET study pack, wines and cost of exam and lunch at a restaurant nearby.
